A Cracking Morning At The Fornet!!!

We had a ‘team’ ski up at the Fornet this morning. The temperature dropped overnight and the snow lightened up quite nicely. It rained in town last night and snowed higher up so the fresh dusting of snow helped as well. All in all it was a great morning and it was nice to be back into winter snow again.

There was a huge avalanche at the top of the Fornet Glacier yesterday afternoon. The entire ridge above the t-bar from one end to the other has gone, and it’s an impressive sight. Yesterday’s avalanche took two people, but they were dug out alive. One of the victims suffered a broken femur and the other was uninjured physically, but traumatised.

The rain has stabilised the mountain lower down while the heavy snow has purged a lot of slopes at altitude. But, any big slope at altitude that hasn’t already purged itself must be considered potentially dangerous. As usually, December is and has been an interesting month. Stay tuned!
