The events in America at the moment are very worrying. The death of Daunte Wright has sparked violent protests after the 20-year-old was shot dead by a police officer who mistook her hand-gun for her taser.
What really worries me now is what will happen if Derek Chauvin is acquitted for the murder of George Floyd? With a defense witness claiming that Chauvin used ‘justifiable force’ I feel he might just get away with it. If Chauvin is acquitted of murder I fear we are in for a long summer of violent protests. And not only in America but around the world as well. The normally peaceful ‘Black Lives Matter’ campaign may take on a new life for those whose tempers are already simmering.
(I feel for police officers who must be frightened every time they approach a vehicle or stop someone on the street. When so many people are carrying guns on their person or in the glove-box of their cars it must be a nerve-wracking and scary experience every time they stop someone. But America’s gun laws have a lot to answer for and that’s a topic of massive debate for another time. I do find it quite unbelievable that so many Americans are so reluctant to change their antiquated gun laws.)
And now on to something lighter! Thomas is sleeping in the hut on Mont Pourri tonight and is then ‘skinning’ up Mont Pourri early tomorrow morning. He’s going alone as none of his pals wants to go but he’s hoping to meet someone in the refuge to team up with. And I think Chris and Suzanne ‘skinned’ up to the Glacier Pers today. That’s a long way from the bottom!!!
