It was a quiet day today and I was travelling light with just myself and Frans. I thought it was the perfect opportunity for an easy day as we’ve been working hard lately and planned accordingly. But my relaxing easy day went out the window when we arrived at the Gourmandine.
Jean Marc had another suggestion of a route Chris and I haven’t skied before. Chris is always ready for a new adventure and the next thing I know we’re off ‘skinning’ again. It was incredibly scenic with great snow and well worth the trip. (See photos) It’s always nice to be able to add some new options into the repertoire. In these periods of prolonged drought you can’t ever have enough tricks up your sleeve.
I felt sorry for Frans though as his feet are killing him. He could have used a ‘gravity-fed’ morning but was quick on the uptake for a new route. Sorry Frans!
Andreas and Thomas were off today while Henry was trying our itinerary from yesterday. JM is entertaining Richard and Sylvie and a couple of their friends.
There is a rumour of some snow next week. We aren’t expecting much, perhaps 10 to 15 cm’s, but it would make a huge difference. For the moment it looks like next Tuesday and Wednesday so fingers crossed on that one!
I was speaking to Pat Zimmer at the bus stop a couple of days ago. We were reminiscing about a winter 30 years or so ago when we went eight weeks without snow. imagine eight weeks of clear blue skies and not a flake of snow! In those days we didn’t have touring gear and the options that go with it. We just spent the entire time skiing souffle wherever we could find it, often in couloirs. That puts our little drought into perspective!
Don’t forget Karen and Andreas at the Danois tomorrow night at 5pm. As usual I’m really looking forward to it!
Stay tuned!
