Wayne's Photos of the Day >

Wow, what a morning! Expectations were low as the skies were overcast for the first time in two weeks. After so much sunshine it was a bit shocking to have cloud cover and flat-light.

It was forecast to clear during the morning and be brighter at altitude right from the start. Fortunately better vis at altitude was the case. There was an fantastic sea-of-cloud that we managed to stay above for most of the morning. The misty cloud moving in and out made for some stunning views and it was incredibly atmospheric. (see photos)

What made a massive difference today was the three to five centimetres of fresh snow that fell overnight. It laid down a lovely cushion that softened up the ‘feel’ underfoot and opened up a few more options. The fresh snow combined with pretty decent visibility made for a great morning, especially when expectations were low.

Unfortunately that little dusting is all we can expect for a while as the sun is forecast to return into next week.

Stay tuned!

PS I forgot to mention that it was bloody cold today and we had a very naughty hot chocolate stop!
