Funky!!!

That was a ‘funky’ morning with a capital F! It was a beautiful day but we had the feeling there would be a few lifts slow to open and after dealing with the ‘cabin-fever’ queue at the Olympique I knew I didn’t want to get involved with other skiers so I headed to the Tour du Charvet via TJ’s Shoulder. Chris and Henry were right behind me and we had a stunning run top-to-bottom with great snow and fantastic ambience. During the past couple of days of stormy weather the chamois haven’t been disturbed and we came across a huge herd of between 30 and 40 and it was a wonderful sight! They crossed down the sunny-side and headed up the narrow little couloir in the Lores and I haven’t seen that many chamois at one time in about 30-years when Chris and I saw a massive herd on a stormy day in the Gorge du Malpasset. (See photos) From there I skied a Marmottons into the Marmottes and then circled back around to ski the meadows down from the Borsat (which opened at 11 o’clock!) and then back up for another tour but this time via the Couloir du Mont Blanc, which was atmospheric and great skiing. I finished off with a piste run down the ‘L’ and a quick Grand Vallon to finish off a really ‘Funky’ and satisfying morning.

Chris ended up circling back around as well but ‘skinned’ to Mont Roup and I’m not too sure what Henry skied after the initial Tour du Charvet. Meanwhile Thomas headed towards Tignes and I know he had an excellent run on the Tour du Balme but I’m not sure what else he skied. Andreas and Tansy drove to Italy today and I’ll keep you posted on their holiday when news comes in.

Gill is looking for a lift to the airport in Lyon on the afternoon of April 9th. On the off chance that someone may be flying back to the UK on that day her flight is around 18:40. Fingers crossed on that one!

We’re expecting a little more snow tonight so hopefully the wind won’t be a major factor and we’ll be back in business again tomorrow. Stay tuned!

PS Kristina who managed our office several years ago is back on holidays staying at the UCPA. She crossed paths with Chris today in the Charvet and it’s her birthday today, so Happy Birthday Kristina and I hope to see you at the Guinea Pigs on Thursday!
