I had my six-week follow-up appointment with the brilliant Seb Sturridge last Thursday. To my complete surprise he told me that I could start to play golf again. I certainly don’t feel like an athlete at the moment or ready to play golf but he has given me the confidence to start picking up the pace with my rehab.
I’ve understandably been a little bit cautious up until now. So far I’ve been doing Pilates every day, walking between 30 and 40 minutes and trying to do some one-legged exercises to build up my wasted muscles. But after seeing Seb I’m ready to be more dynamic. I now need to get more physical and up the ante instead of babying myself along.
First stop was the driving range for a bucket of gentle pitching wedges before chipping and putting with Millie. I’ve also started to do a little cycling and have started to lift a few weights again. I’m already walking around the golf course with my friends but might take a pitching wedge and putter with me to start playing from about 85 yards in. It was very pleasant news and I’m really looking forward to slowly working my way back to playing again.
