Radio Val announced 5cm’s of fresh snow overnight and with grey skies and very little new snow we weren’t expecting too much. We were just about to head to Tignes when Oli from Mountain Masters mentioned that he’d heard there was 40cm’s up on the Pisaillas so Chris, Thomas and I changed our minds and headed to the Fornet via 10cm’s of fresh snow on the ‘L’. What a warm-up and what a surprise! We had two stunning runs in the Grand Vallon, one in the Combe du Signal, two in the Combe du 3300 on the Glacier, a Combe du Geant, and some nice bonus bits-and-bob’s on the way down. There was 30 to 40cm’s everywhere we skied and we had just enough visibility to navigate and ski comfortably and it turned out to be a brilliant maximum-turn morning! (It was great to have Katie and Gill along as well!)
I had a great afternoon with Tim as we returned to the Fornet and for the most part the snow remained fairly cold as the sun never really came out today. And that’s great news for tomorrow, especially when it cooled down and snow most of the afternoon. Stay tuned!
PS Gill and Millie are looking for a lift from Geneva on April 17th and their flight gets in around 7:30. (No luggage) Thanks!
