Off-piste Cretes du Genepy (Val-d'Isere)
Les Cretes du Genepy is an ideal ski touring tour for those who have never toured before, as well as seasoned veterans. You can easily take a shorter option for the less-fit, but there are many longer variations, including linking it up with Mont Roup. This sector is largely made up of slopes facing east between the Pointe du Grand Pre (3059m) and the Pointe des Grapillons (3092m) on the southern end of the Plateau du Bellevarde.
Because of the orientation of the slopes, which are also protected from the prevailing wind, this itinerary is ideal during early season cold snaps. On the coldest of days you can feel some relief and actually take off a layer while ‘skinning’ up in the sun. Les Cretes du Genepy offers pitch-after-pitch of wonderful powder snow early in the season, and fantastic spring snow options later on. And the views are quite stunning! The impressive la Sana at 3436 metres dominates with views of the Albaron (3637m) in the far distance hanging above the Maurienne Valley.
Off-piste Val-d'Isere
For this Val-d'Isere off-piste, we access the start of our tour from either the Borsat or Grande Pre chairlift, and after a short traverse or descent we put on our "skins" to start our climb. As it’s a vast area there are many starting points to the long descent. The terrain is varied from gentle slopes through to steeper options, and can be skied in total security.
The climb is relatively gentle so "kick-turns" aren’t necessary, but there are opportunities en-route to learn this invaluable touring skill from our off-piste guides.
All necessary touring and safety equipment is available to rent or buy at Jean Sports. Jean Sports is located in the heart of Val d’Isere.
Alpine Experience Off-Piste Ski School in Val d’Isere is ready to share our passion of the mountains with you, and answer all of your questions.
